BACK IN THE RING:
Once again we're watching mercenaries
fight in the ring. I guess they had to get the testosterone levels
back up to a manly mark.
MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS:
Prince John has a much better wig this
season. Not to mention a more elaborate wardrobe. But his red
cape here looks a lot like Lord Malice's from the last ep.
SERVICE WITH A SMILE:
Marquise De Lanza receives room service,
and the waiter's voice sounds awfully familiar. Maybe I ought to
order room service more often! Hey, Marquise, I'll take care of the
tip.
THAT WAS NO LADY:
"Come in you little devil!" ; "Over
here, Darling." First of all, doesn't Prince John know the Marquise's
voice already? Maybe he saw her across a crowded room, and this is
the first time they're meeting. But how in the heck could he possibly
mistake that voice for a woman? I can imagine Matthew under the sheets,
saying those lines, and laughing hysterically during that scene.
YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR BOOTS ON:
When Prince John climbs into bed, why
doesn't he notice that the "Marquise" still has her boots on?
THE OTHER WOMAN:
Robin-- "Whatever would Lady Claudia
say?" Umm.... she's saying nothing. Lady Claudia got the boot
this season.
NOT A WORD:
If she knew that Robin was going to
rob Prince John, why didn't she try to make some sound of warning while
bound and gagged behind the curtain? Robin must have promised
her that kiss in exchange for her silence.
RIBBON FOR A BRIGAND:
It's just a little thing, but
I really like the black ribbon trailing through Robin's ponytail.
It's an elegant little touch.
I WON'T BE NEEDING THIS?:
Why does Robin get rid of his sword,
throwing it at Prince John as he escapes? You'd think he'd be needing
that later.
NEED SOMEONE TO SCRUB YOUR BACK?:
Very sweet scene between Robin and Marion
here; only thing missing is the kiss. Marion gets rid of Robin so
she can take her bath, but she puts the lantern behind the screen and stands
in front of the lantern so anyone walking past can see everything.
APPEARING FOR ONLY A SHORT ENGAGEMENT:
Why is Alexander's Legion buried in
England instead of Macedonia where they belong? They must have been
shipped over as a tourist attraction to raise new revenues.
OUT OF THIN AIR:
Check out Harpy's and Artegon's makeup.
Looks like someone got an airbrush for Christmas, cuz that's what painted
that makeup.
THE SKY IS THE LIMIT:
Playing the part of Rossmar is Richard
North: costar of Cynthia Rothrock and Jackie Chan martial arts movies.
Someone really went all out on the production budget this year to get him
in the cast.
LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE:
Kemal fights Rossmar. Now, I am
no big fan of violence, even on the screen, but I do like to watch Kemal
move. Yowza!
WHICH WAY DID THEY GO?:
Robin is being chased by the Legion,
and Little John catches up with him. That would mean that Little
John would have had to pass the Legion, and now they know where he's going.
FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF...:
Robin and Little John are riding so
fast that they would not have taken a second to notice each other, let
alone be able to talk to each other.
OVER THE RIVER, AND THROUGH THE
WOODS:
Little John-- "I took your old through-the-forest
shortcut." Honey, you're in the middle of Sherwood. Any way
you go is through the forest.
IT'S A LOOK:
The servant that Tuck steals clothing
from was not wearing a hat, so where does Tuck get the hat?
UNNECCESSARY STUNT OF THE WEEK:
Unnecessary use of Slow Motion for Robin
and Little John's jump off the rock. It's not even that high, and
there's nothing to warrant the special effect on that shot.
ROAD TRIP:
Marion-- "Maybe Robin and I will go
with you [to Africa.]" Now that's a lead in for a storyline with
lots of potential if I've ever heard one. Too bad no one ever bothered
to try it in this series.
INVISIBLE MAN:
Marion watches the red glow around her
feet just before the Legion appears, but when they finally do materialize
she is still looking at the ground.
SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO:
Robin-- "Well, we can't keep them
waiting. . . . You're not going to wear that are you?" Robin make
up your mind. Are you in a hurry, or do you want to wait for Tuck
to change his clothes?
CURRENTLY WITHOUT COUNTRY:
So now she's a Marquesa? She was
a Marquise before. In English aristocracy, a Marquess is a rank of
nobility between Duke and Earl; the female counterpart being a Marchioness.
The European version is Marquis, with his wife, the Marquise. Marquesa
sounds like a Spanish title of nobility, but the second part of her name
is Di Lanza, implying Italian heritage.
HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR STAKE:
Marion is tied to a stake in the middle
of Prince John's audience hall. How convenient that there is a stake
built into the middle of the audience hall.
WHICH PART OF OVER HERE DID YOU
NOT UNDERSTAND?:
Marion cries out for help (it's Harpy
impersonating her) and everyone looks around, trying to figure out which
direction the sound came from. So why is everyone looking up?
I don't think they tied her to a roofbeam.
HIT OR MISS:
This happens to be one of the sillier
fight scenes. Robin fights Rossmar. Robin dodges a blow with
a deft eyebrow lift. Rossmar keeps swinging at Robin, getting nowhere
even near close to Robin, not even enough to look convincing, but Robin
keeps reeling back from the non-existant hits anyway. He even reels
back from a hit that we never saw Rossmar throw.
I'LL SHOW YOU THE ROPES, AND
THE CHAINS AND THE HANDCUFFS TOO:
Robin tries to untie Marion. He
winks at her, implying that if the circumstances were different, he'd take
advantage of her being tied up!
KICKBACKS:
Robin makes a series of kicks at Rossmar
that don't come close to appearing close.
WHO ORDERED "HOOKED ON PHONICS"?:
Rossmar--"I will now kill the woman
very very slowly." How slowly, Ross? As slow as you're reading
the cue cards?
(I paused the tape here to write something
down. Stopped the tape just before "Your bleeding soul on the end
of my sword." Perfect freeze frame shot of Robin with a half smile.
I immediately forgot what I was going to write.)
A CHORUS LINE:
Robin declines to join Prince John and
the Marquise Di Lanza. Everyone exits in a straight line, starting
on the right foot.
SHE AIN'T HEAVY, SHE'S MY SORCERESS:
Despite the fact that she works for
Prince John, Mortiana does not seem to like him much. He doesn't
even know it, but Robin has someone working for him from inside the castle.
FINAL SCORE:
Great action sequences, even
if the punches do fall short. More romantic interaction between Marion
and Robin, which I really like to see.
